Christians gone wild!!!

Okay, perhaps not.  But they appear to be getting divorced in record numbers.  Check out this here post from the ever-informative Pam Spaulding of Pam’s House Blend and Pandagon.

Among “born-again” Christians, 27 percent currently are divorced or previously have been divorced, compared with 24 percent among adults who are not “born again.”

Surprisingly, the Barna report said, the Christian group whose adherents have the highest likelihood of getting divorced are Baptists. The only group to surpass Baptists were Christians associated with non-denominational Protestant churches.

…which are full of people who find Baptist churches too liberal for tastes.
On a more serious note, it’s no wonder they’re so sure that marriage is “under attack” — their own marriages are falling apart.

Now, the skeptic in me is wondering what percentage of these divorcees split from their partners BEFORE welcoming Christ into their hearts. I suspect that it’d be the majority, and that the reason given was their mate didn’t love Jesus (or by extension) America as much as they did.

As we all know, a true America and Jesus-lover never, ever cuts and runs!

Rex, my man! How’s it hangin?

  3. Kevin Wolf Says:

I think what Rex said is true. I would assume most of them got divorced beforehand. And now that they’ve found Jeebus they want to stop other from divorcing. Because now they know best for everybody.

and here i thought you would have a post about drunk, possibly high christians who showed their boobs under a lot of coercion and for no pay, made out with other christians in public places and generally went wild.

come to think of it, that would probably make their divorce rates plummet.

  5. Res Publica Says:

AIF, that would rock with an awesomeness from beyond the stars. I would pay as many as THREE installments of just $19.99 for that.

  6. Chuckles Says:

I still love the statistics, the source of which I do not know, quoted in Savage Love and Lies and the Lieing Liars that just over 50% of those who vow to remain chaste until marriage break those vows within a year.

Giggling is not sufficient as the sole content of a comment, and commentors who just giggle and run are asking for a severe spanking.
